A.C. Newman's debut solo album, The Slow Wonder, is filled with short, fabulous power pop. Each track is under four minutes long but be warned, they can stick in your head for four hours. Newman is also known as Carl, the red-headed Canadian guy from the New Pornographers and Zumpano. While "Miracle Drug" and "On the Table" are really fun and catchy, a song like "The Cloud Prayer" is much sadder but still exciting in flavor. It's hard to decide which
is the best-written song on the album because Newman is almost a perfect
pop songwriter. They're all great, and too short!
